On January 12th, 2024 i wrote a post about going back in time in the year 1900 and told people back in the day if their ideas of the world od the 12th century were right or wrong. The post was quite funny to write (and to read hopefully), and it had a good success. At one point, i read this comment under my post.

This was interesting! Makes me wonder what progress will happen beyond our lifetimes.

And then i thought: “That is a great idea! Why don’t we take a look at what the year 2100 might look like!” So, right now, the only thing i have to do i looking at the world today and predict what in the year 2100 will have to offer. I probably won’t be there to see that, but right now, it would be interesting to imagine how the world would be.

Before I start, i have one little premise to do: of course, i am assuming that humanity doesn’t kill himself because of the WWIII. With that being said, we can start.

Space tourism.

Companies like Virgin, Amazon and X-Space are spending millions of dollars every year to delevop rockets to bring people outside the atmosphere. Even if we are still not there to send people in the outer space, those private companies are making good steps forward. At one point in the future, we will have the opportunity to spend some money to go into the space for a few minutes. And the moment would not be that far away.

Maybe the very first flight will be pretty expensive and it will be something for the rich people. However, if the business can be something good, other companies will do it. And with more competitions, the price will go down. I would not be surprise that in the year 2100, normal people like you and me will be able to fly outside the atmosphere and spend some time into the space. Maybe we would even start to think to have a space hotel, where people can spend a week into the space, right next to the ISS. Think about it: you book a room in the space hotel and when you look at the window, you will not see the sunset over the ocean, but the sunset over the entire planet.

Mars.

In 1969, we went to the moon. We all know that. We didn’t come back so much often because, quite frankly, there is nothing interesting around the moon. We collect stones, we analyse them, and we concluded that “the moon is not worthy the money!” Flying people to the moon it a long journey and pretty expencive. So, sending people to our satellite, just to collect stones and nothing more, it would have been no bueno for business.

Mars is completely another story. Mars is pretty similar to Earth. It’s not the same, otherwise we would have already tried everything we could to go there, but there are some similarities. It’s not a secret that Nasa and Elon Musk are spending a lot of money to bring a man to Mars in the next decade. We know how to get there because we sent robots there. I know that for human is different and more complicated, but it’s not impossible.

Let’s say that during the next decade, a man will land on Mars. The next step will be to colonize the planet. If the first mission will be successful (it’s a big “if), i think that a colony on Mars is not unthinkable. Maybe it would be only for scientists and researchers, but still we might have men on Mars.

No more pollution.

This one is not a prediction, but more like a spoiler. in 2050, the entire planet must not produce any more air pollution. We are witnessing the change right now. Every country spends billions of dollars in green energy to save the planet.

Now, i am not saying if the planet will be saved or not. I am just saying that humanity will be gree in the year 2100. If we really hit the target of being Co2 free in 2050, we would be free for almost half a century at that point. The entire economy will be green. Every field of economy will no longer produce energy burning coal and oil. That is something dope. As i said before, maybe the world will be so sick that there will be nothing to save anymore, but humanity will not be a cancer for the planet.

Supersonic flight.

At the end of the 20th century, Airbus created an airplane that it was able to fly faster than the sound. If you were born in the 70s, 80s and early 90s, you have for sure heard about the Concorde.

The Concorde was a beauty. it was a very high-tech airplane that was able to bring people from France to New York in three hours, flying at the speed of sound, maybe even faster. If i remember well, Concorde had space for 100 passengers and the tickets for that flight were very expensive. Both because that airplane was expensive to maintain, second because Airbus was the only airlines with that airplane, together with British Airwais. No other airplanes had such beauty.

That airplane has been in service for almost 30 years, then the incident on July 2000 put the word end to a wonderful story. 109 people died on that flight. In the beginning, the investigation said that the airplane was not safe and the incident was the result of something way too dangerous. In truth, the reason was completely different. According to Wikipedia:

Whilst taking off from Charles de Gaulle Airport, the aircraft ran over debris on the runway, causing a tyre to explode and disintegrate. Tyre fragments, launched upwards at great speed by the rapidly spinning wheel, violently struck the underside of the wing, damaging parts of the landing gear – thus preventing its retraction – and causing the integral fuel tank to rupture. Large amounts of fuel leaking from the rupture ignited, causing a loss of thrust in the left-hand-side engines 1 and 2. The aircraft lifted off, but the loss of thrust, high drag from the extended landing gear, and fire damage to the flight controls made it impossible to maintain control. The jet crashed into a hotel in nearby Gonesse two minutes after takeoff. All nine crew and 100 passengers on board were killed, as well as four people in the hotel. Four other people sustained slight injuries.

After more than two decades, United Airlanes announces that the supersonic airplanes will be in the sky in 2029. it is the right decision. The disaster was not because the airplane was too dangerous, but because the landing road was not clean. If United Airlanes respects the dealine, supersonic flight will be in the game again. After that moment, i can see other companies doing the same. In the year 2100 all the companies will be mostly with supersonich airplanes. Something like the Aribus A380 and the Boing 747 will be history. People will be able to fly from a continent to the other in a few hours, maybe even less than an hour. How knows! One thing is for sure: flying will be way much faster.

cure for every illness.

Think about healthcare in the 19th century. Now, take a look at what we have right now. The progress we have made is simply insane. It’s like looking at two different universes. And we made in one Century. More than that, let’s think of the starting point: we had no computers, no technology, and it was a lot of the tools we have no were not invented yet.

Now try to imagine what will be able to reach until 2100. One thing is that cancer will not be a problem anymore. Why is that? Well, in 2023, Pfizer announced they were testing a cure for any kind of cancer. We are still in the first phase, but this is the first step of something insane. I am pretty sure that in the year 2100, cancer will be like having a cold. You find out that your cells start to get crazy, you go to the drugstore and you will buy the cure and you will be fine in a few days.

Maybe we will be able to cure genetic diseases we are not able to cure right now, like the Alzeimher, for example. I don’t want to exaggerate right now, but we might be able to cure every single thing we are not able to cure today. That would be awesome. In that way, the only two ways to die would be getting old or someone killed us. Passing away, because you got sick, won’t be an option anymore.

final conclusion.

I didn’t talk about society because no matter in which era we live and how technology is advances, people don’t change. We will be the same and this is the only constant we have in this world. We will have the same problems, the same behaviours and we will live in the same way. Because humanity doesn’t change.

This is the world i picture in the year 2100. Actually it is quite realistic, thinking that all the things i have written are happining right now. Maybe some of them will happen when we will not be around anymore, but they will happen. Trust me.
